Mobile telecommunications has been and continues to be one of the fastest growing and most dynamic segments of the telecommunications industry. According to Cahner’s Instat Group semiconductor revenue for wireless handsets reached more than $50B in 2005, driven by sales volume of over 1.2 billion handsets that year. In order to succeed in such an environment, handset manufacturers must continue to introduce new and attractive features to consumers, while simultaneously providing incentives for network operators – their primary distribution channel – to push their phones.

Magnolia is positioned to be one of the first companies to integrate smart antenna technologies into RF chip sets utilized in mobile phones. Magnolia aims to provide a simpler smart antenna solution that does not require any modification to the Base band and has made this solution available much earlier than the possible competition. The Company’s innovative chip sets will help handset manufacturers satisfy both of their key constituencies – consumers and network operators.

Consumers will buy Magnolia-enabled phones, since Magnolia’s chip sets:
  • quadruple bit rate, thus reducing upload time and cost of airtime, proportionally;
  • decrease radiation hazard 50% to 95% depending on antenna type;
  • significantly reduce dropped calls.
Network operators will be highly motivated to push Magnolia-enabled phones, since these phones put half the load on their networks. This means network operators can:
  • Serve twice as many subscribers with the same infrastructure, in addition to any other capacity enhancement offered by directionality of passive antennas and by base-station smart antenna utilization. Magnolia offers capacity doubling, over and above any other solutions offered by other companies for handset or for base-station smartness.
  • Deliver content applications at a significantly lower price (i.e. reduced airtime), due to quadrupling of bit rate, as well as provide better quality of service.
  • Offer better/more consistent reception to users, many of whom choose a carrier based on this critical criterion
